President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commends the bravery of Nigeria’s military for swiftly responding to a request from the Government of Benin Republic to protect its 35-year-old democracy from coup plotters who strike at dawn on Sunday.

According to Mediaplusng.com, President Tinubu orders Nigerian Air Force fighter jets to enter Benin’s airspace, retake control from the coup plotters, and secure the National TV and a military camp where they had regrouped. The Benin government formally requests air support and surveillance to safeguard constitutional order and protect citizens.

Nigerian ground forces are deployed under Beninese command to protect key institutions and contain armed groups. Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, confirms that all requests are fulfilled and troops are fully operational in Benin.

As reported by Mediaplusng.com, constitutional order in Benin is temporarily disrupted when Colonel Pascal Tigri leads a coup, seizing the National TV and claiming to overthrow President Patrice Talon. Loyal forces, with Nigeria’s support, regain control and remove the insurgents. President Tinubu praises the Nigerian armed forces for acting within ECOWAS protocols, stabilizing a neighboring country, and demonstrating commitment to democracy and regional security.
