President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for clinching their seventh FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship, marking a historic fifth consecutive title win.
The D’Tigress, led by Coach Rena Wakama, secured a 78-64 victory over Mali in Sunday’s finals at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, solidifying Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s basketball.
In a statement, President Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, skill, and unity that powered them to the record-breaking win despite a challenging first quarter.
> “Your exceptional performance has made Nigeria proud. Like the Super Falcons, you have become a beacon of inspiration for young girls across the nation. D’Tigress have once again showcased the relentless Nigerian spirit, teamwork, and determination,” the President remarked.
President Tinubu also commended Coach Wakama and her technical team for their strategic leadership, while acknowledging the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) for their unwavering support.
He reassured the team of the government’s continuous backing as they prepare for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup next year.
> “Nigeria celebrates you. We will continue to stand by you as you take on new global challenges. I eagerly await receiving you and the trophy in Abuja,” Tinubu concluded.
