President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a “pillar of discipline, patriotism, and moral strength” whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.
During a special Federal Executive Council session held at the State House, Abuja, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, President Tinubu spoke on the enduring impact of Buhari’s leadership and character.
“President Buhari stood tall in courage and principle,” Tinubu said. “He lived with humility, governed with discipline, and served Nigeria with unwavering loyalty.”
According to the President, Buhari’s journey reflected the nation’s own—spanning from the military to democratic governance. From leading as Head of State and later as a democratically elected President, Buhari upheld values of accountability and justice.
“Even in power, he remained modest and calm under pressure. And in retirement, he chose quiet dignity over political interference,” Tinubu noted.
He praised Buhari’s fight against corruption, his calm demeanor in crises, and his commitment to national unity and service. “His life was a reflection of faith, sincerity, and quiet courage.”
President Tinubu also highlighted Buhari’s final years, noting how he returned to Daura to live as a private citizen without interference in governance. “He was not a perfect man—no leader is—but he was truly a good man. Nigeria will remember him.”
The President extended his condolences to the Buhari family, especially Hajia Aisha Buhari, and thanked the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Governor Dikko Radda for organizing a dignified State Funeral within 48 hours.
“Mai Gaskiya. The People’s General. The Farmer President—your duty is done,” Tinubu said solemnly.
He concluded with prayers for President Buhari’s eternal rest, calling on Nigerians to emulate his values of courage, humility, and patriotism.
