The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has reaffirmed his commitment to reviving critical infrastructure across the state to boost socio-economic development.
During a recent inspection tour of Tai and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas, Ibas visited several underutilized projects, including the abandoned Songhai Integrated Farm, the Mother and Child Hospital, and the Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diagnostic and Treatment Centre.
For the second time since assuming office nearly three months ago, Vice Admiral Ibas returned to the neglected Songhai Farm in Bunu, Tai LGA—a once-promising agro-industrial hub established during the Rotimi Amaechi administration. Spread across over 300 hectares, the farm was intended for livestock, aquaculture, training, and agricultural innovation but has since fallen into disrepair, with key infrastructure vandalized and operations stalled.
Addressing local leaders and community stakeholders, Ibas expressed concern over the wasted potential and emphasized the need to reactivate the facility for job creation, food security, and rural development.
The inspection tour also included stops at the Model Primary Healthcare Centre and Primary School One in Bunu, Tai, as well as key health facilities in Obio/Akpor: the Mother and Child Hospital and the Dr. Peter Odili Diagnostic Centre, both commissioned during the Nyesom Wike administration but still not operational.
Vice Admiral Ibas announced plans to convene a stakeholders’ forum aimed at discussing actionable strategies for the revival of such projects, with a strong focus on private sector collaboration and sustainable development.
