Rowdy Session in House of Representatives Over Alleged Illegal Land Allocation at Lagos Trade Fair Complex

A heated session erupts in Nigeria’s House of Representatives as lawmakers clash over a motion on the alleged illegal and criminal allocation of federal government lands at the International Trade Fair Complex in Lagos.

The motion, sponsored by Hon. Ademorin Kuye, calls for an investigation to be handled by an ad-hoc committee. However, several members strongly oppose the proposal, arguing that the matter falls under the Standing Committee on Commerce, which has direct oversight on such issues.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the disagreement quickly escalates as lawmakers engage in a tense debate over procedural fairness and committee jurisdiction. When the motion is put to a vote, Deputy Speaker Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who presides over the session, rules in favor of Hon. Kuye’s proposal for an ad-hoc committee.

The ruling sparks further anger among some members who begin to protest by voting against subsequent motions. Their discontent continues to disrupt proceedings as lawmakers refuse to allow any new motions to be presented, shouting down colleagues who attempt to speak on the floor.

Efforts by senior members to restore calm prove unsuccessful, forcing the Deputy Speaker to call for an executive session in a bid to settle the rising tension.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the ongoing dispute highlights deep divisions within the House over committee powers and procedural transparency. The outcome of the executive session is expected to determine how the investigation into the controversial land allocations will proceed.
