Security operatives in Imo State have successfully dislodged suspected hideouts belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The notorious camp, located in Njaba Local Government Area, was dismantled on Monday, August 18, following a joint operation of the Imo State Police Command and other security agencies.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the operation was carried out at Ubaa in Umuaka community after actionable intelligence and confessions from two arrested suspects, identified as Uchenna Opara and Ozioma Ihedoro. Police authorities confirmed that the suspects provided leads that guided the security team to the camp.
In a statement signed by Henry Okoye, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), the operatives came under heavy fire as they advanced on the hideout. However, the attackers were subdued by what the police described as “superior firepower,” forcing the gunmen to retreat into the surrounding bushes with possible gunshot wounds.
Mediaplusng.com reports that a thorough search of the abandoned camp led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition. Items recovered include an AK-47 rifle with three magazines, 40 rounds of live ammunition, 60 rounds of GPMG ammunition, two pump-action guns, 582 live cartridges, two Biafra flags, and a Point of Sale (POS) machine believed to have been used for illegal transactions.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, commended the gallantry of the operatives and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring peace and security in the state. He further urged residents to stay vigilant and immediately report anyone with suspicious movements or gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.
