The Leader of the Senate, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has dismissed media reports claiming there is a plot to remove the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, from office. He described the reports as false, misleading, and intended to create unnecessary confusion and tension within the National Assembly.
Speaking during plenary, Senator Bamidele clarified that no senator has discussed or contemplated Akpabio’s removal. According to him, the Senate remains united and focused on addressing key national issues rather than being distracted by baseless allegations.
> “There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion about the removal of the Senate President. We are totally united and have developed a zero-tolerance attitude toward distractions because there are urgent issues of national importance that we need to focus on. Reports like that are calculated to create confusion,” Bamidele said.
His statement came after Senator Orji Kalu, representing Abia North, made reference to past unsuccessful attempts to impeach the Senate President.
Reaffirming the unity of the 10th Senate, Bamidele emphasized that there is no reason or intention to remove any member of the leadership. He added that lawmakers are committed to delivering good governance and working closely with the executive to address economic and social challenges affecting Nigerians.
