The Senate passes the National Emergency Toll Service (NETS) Establishment Bill 2025 through second reading, marking a major step toward creating a unified emergency response system in Nigeria.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the bill is sponsored by Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua of Katsina Central. It aims to set up a single, three-digit, toll-free number that citizens across the country can easily call during emergencies. The goal is to improve access, speed, and coordination during crises.
The proposed law receives strong support from lawmakers who agree that Nigeria needs a modern system that ensures quick help during accidents, security threats, disasters, or medical emergencies.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the bill also gives the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) regulatory power to manage and supervise the service. This is expected to strengthen communication between agencies and improve overall emergency response nationwide.
The Senate says the NETS system will help save more lives, reduce emergency delays, and bring Nigeria closer to global best practices.
