The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs today clears President Bola Tinubu’s nominees for key positions in the Federal Character Commission (FCC). The committee endorses Hon. Ayo Omidiran as Executive Chairman alongside several nominees appointed as commissioners.
According to a report by Mediaplusng.com, the screening takes place at the National Assembly, where each nominee faces questions on service delivery, equity, and national representation.
Committee Chairman Senator Onyesoh Alwell, representing Rivers South East, praises President Tinubu for presenting what he describes as highly qualified individuals. He says the calibre of the nominees shows the administration’s commitment to strengthening the FCC and promoting fairness in federal appointments.
Mediaplusng.com notes that the screening follows laid-down parliamentary tradition, especially the “take-a-bow” privilege granted to former lawmakers.
During the session, Hon. Ayo Omidiran, who served in the 8th House of Representatives, benefits from this tradition and takes a bow after answering a few questions from the committee. Other nominees outline their plans to improve transparency, federal balance, and public trust in the commission.
The committee’s recommendations will now move to the Senate plenary for final approval. Lawmakers are expected to decide on the confirmations at the next legislative sitting, marking another step toward revitalising the Federal Character Commission under the Renewed Hope administration.
