Senate Witnesses Mild Drama Over Unparliamentary Conduct

A mild drama unfolds in the Senate as Senator Danjuma Goje raises concern over what he describes as unparliamentary conduct after a sudden pause in Tuesday’s plenary session.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the tension begins after nearly 30 minutes of inactivity, during which several senators gather around the Senate President for an animated discussion. The unusual lull prompts Senator Goje to raise a point of order under Order 55 of the Senate Rule Book.

According to Mediaplusng.com, Senator Goje expresses frustration, saying the Senate must either continue with proceedings, move into a closed-door session, or go on recess. He adds, “We can go out and leave you. When you are ready, we will return and meet you.”

In his response, the Senate President explains that the brief pause is deliberate. He tells lawmakers that he invited them for a quick consultation related to an urgent assignment at the Presidential Villa scheduled for 1 p.m.

“Everyone here was invited by the chair for a brief discussion in continuation of today’s sitting and in line with the order you cited,” he says. “Please approach the chair so you can be part of it.”

Senator Goje laughs off the request and refuses to approach the chair. Moments later, plenary resumes and the Senate continues with its scheduled business.
