Bayelsa West lawmaker, Senator Seriake Dickson, has expressed support for the Senate’s constitutional authority to reshuffle committee leaderships, following the recent replacement of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as Chair of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
In an interview with mediaplusng.com, Senator Dickson acknowledged the development, stating, “I sympathize with her,” but emphasized that such changes fall within the legislative arm’s rights and are a routine aspect of Senate operations.
While affirming the legitimacy of the Senate’s action, Dickson stressed the importance of upholding judicial decisions regarding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s position as a serving senator. He reiterated that her participation in Senate affairs must remain consistent with court rulings validating her tenure.
The removal has sparked conversation across political circles, but Dickson’s remarks appear aimed at balancing institutional procedures with the protection of individual legislative rights under the law.
