Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has raised concerns over her denied access to the National Assembly complex in Abuja, expressing deep frustration and accusing the Senate President of operating the upper legislative chamber with excessive authority.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the incident, Senator Natasha described the blockage as unjustified and lacking any formal explanation. According to her, no official communication was provided to clarify the reason for the restriction, which she believes undermines the principles of democracy and legislative transparency.

“This is not how a democratic institution should function,” she stated. “The Senate President cannot run the Senate like an emperor.”

Senator Natasha further disclosed that she is aware the National Assembly is preparing to go on recess and is expected to reconvene in two months. She, however, vowed to return once plenary resumes and pledged to take legal steps to address what she considers a breach of her rights as an elected senator.

“I will be consulting my legal team to fully understand the implications of what transpired today,” she added.

The incident has sparked reactions among observers and constituents, with many calling for clarity and respect for due process within Nigeria’s legislative environment.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan represents Kogi Central Senatorial District and is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
