Shettima Departs Abuja for UN General Assembly in New York

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for New York, United States, to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The global gathering runs from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025.

According to Mediaplusng.com, Shettima is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at this year’s assembly. He is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the high-level debates and take part in key side events with world leaders.

The Vice President’s agenda includes presenting Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Climate Agreement. This announcement will form part of his participation at the UN’s special climate event.

Mediaplusng.com reports that Shettima will also engage in bilateral meetings with international partners, focusing on climate change, development cooperation, and Nigeria’s role in strengthening multilateral relations.

The UN General Assembly provides a platform for global leaders to address pressing international challenges, including peace, security, sustainable development, and climate action.
