Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Bayero University Kano Chapter, have joined the nationwide protest over the Federal Government’s failure to meet their long-standing demands.
The protest, which took place at the Coronation Hall of Bayero University Kano, featured chants, songs, and placards as workers expressed anger over unpaid entitlements and unfulfilled agreements. The unions say their patience has run out after years of unkept promises.
Speaking during the protest, the National Vice President of SSANU, North West Zone, Sabo Balarabe, accused the government of breaching previous agreements. He listed unpaid earned allowances, delays in renegotiating the 2009 agreement, and outstanding salary arrears as major grievances. The unions warn that they may take tougher actions if the government fails to respond.
