The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign more suspected internet fraudsters tomorrow, Tuesday, before vacation judge Justice D. Dipeolu at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
This follows the arrest of 93 suspects during a sting operation at a hotel within the precincts of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).
Last Friday, the EFCC charged 21 out of the 93 suspects, and 7 have already been convicted. The commission says the arraignments will continue in batches until all suspects face trial.
The suspects were arrested at a pool party, allegedly held to celebrate their fraudulent activities involving impersonation, identity theft, and internet fraud.
Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, says despite former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s criticism of the invasion of his property, the facility itself was not the target. He explains that the suspects were the focus of the operation, and many have already confessed to the crimes.
