On 27th January 2027, operatives of the Task Force on Illegal Mining arrested a suspect in connection with unlawful possession of suspected explosive materials.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the operation, led by ASP Aminu Aliyu, was carried out following credible and actionable intelligence. The suspect, Mustapha Mohammad, 38, was intercepted while driving a Toyota Corolla (KUJ 933 EJ). A thorough search of the vehicle recovered 954 suspected explosive materials concealed in polyethylene bags.

Preliminary investigations suggest the explosives were intended for use by bandits as Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), highlighting potential threats to public safety. Mediaplusng.com reports that the suspect is now in police custody, and the recovered materials have been handed over to the Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team for safe storage and detailed analysis.

Authorities continue to investigate the source, intended destination, and purpose of the explosives, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend any accomplices linked to the crime.

The Task Force reassures the public of sustained vigilance and prompt action against illegal mining activities and related criminal acts that threaten security in the region.

Further updates will be provided as investigations progress and more details emerge.
