Three people have been killed in a fresh attack on the Uikpam community, Mbabai Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State — barely 24 hours after another three were murdered in Yelewata within the same council.
A community leader and former Guma State Assembly candidate, Mr. Jimmin Geoffrey confirmed the killings to Mediaplusng.com on Wednesday. He said the body of Mr. Iorhemba Ikpanju, an elderly resident, was found in the bush on Wednesday morning, bringing the death toll to three after Mr. Akeh Kelvin and Mr. Francis Nomsoor was killed the previous night.
> “The discovery of Baba Iorhemba Ikpanju’s body this morning brings the casualty figure to three. We are again calling on the authorities to redeploy security to Uikpam to restore some confidence to our already traumatized residents,” Mr. Geoffrey appealed.
Residents say sustained herdsmen attacks on Guma communities, which share borders with Nasarawa State, continue to worsen insecurity in the area.
While the Benue State Police Command has not responded to media inquiries on the incident, Guma Local Government Chairman, Mr. Maurice Orwough has mobilized security forces to the affected community.
The latest killings have once again heightened fears among residents, who are urging the government to act decisively to protect lives and property.
