The Taraba State Government has directed all secondary schools across the state to immediately suspend boarding activities due to rising security concerns, especially after recent attacks in Kebbi and Niger States.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the directive means all boarding students in public and private secondary schools will now operate strictly as day students until further notice. The decision follows a nationwide pattern of schools becoming soft targets for bandits.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Augustina Godwin, the government noted that boarding students have become major targets in recent attacks. Mediaplusng.com also reports that the order was issued on the instruction of Governor Agbu Kefas, who mandated immediate deboarding across all secondary schools in the state.
The Commissioner further directed all principals and proprietors to comply without delay. Copies of the directive have been sent to the Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, as well as the leadership of APSON and NAPPS for implementation.
