Mediaplusng.com reports that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Taraba State University chapter, has issued a strong warning that it may embark on an indefinite strike over unresolved welfare issues affecting its members.
The chapter’s chairman, Mbave Joshua, stated that the move became necessary after the Taraba State Government failed to respond to the union’s demands or initiate dialogue following the expiration of a two-week ultimatum.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the union resolved during an emergency congress to revive its previously suspended strike if urgent and concrete steps are not taken by the government.
Key grievances raised by ASUU include:
Non-payment of earned academic allowances
Absence of a functional pension scheme
Outstanding salary arrears
Other unresolved welfare matters
Efforts by Mediaplusng.com to obtain the state government’s reaction proved unsuccessful, as Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mike Dio-Jen, did not respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
ASUU maintains that the strike will go ahead unless the government addresses their concerns promptly, warning that prolonged inaction could disrupt academic activities in the institution.
