Taraba Youth Group Disowns Alleged Sponsored Protest Against Governor Kefas

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A civil society group, the Coalition of Taraba Youths for Reform and Governance, distances itself from an alleged sponsored protest targeting the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas. The group says the protest is aimed at discrediting the ongoing civil service reforms and does not reflect the position of genuine youths or workers in the state.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the coalition makes this known while addressing journalists in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital. The group describes the protest as politically motivated and warns against attempts to blackmail members of the Civil Service Verification Committee currently overseeing reforms in the state’s public service.

The coalition urges civil servants with legitimate complaints to follow due process by presenting their documents for proper verification and resolution. It stresses that lawful engagement, not protests sponsored by unknown interests, remains the best way to address grievances related to workers’ welfare.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the group calls on the Taraba State Government to remain focused and firm in implementing the reforms. It notes that the verification exercise is already helping to reposition the civil service for greater transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, its leader, Manri Joshua, says the reform process is necessary to sanitize the system and ensure that only qualified and duly employed workers remain on the payroll. He adds that the exercise will help eliminate irregularities, improve service delivery, and promote sustainable development in the state.

The group warns that distractions through protests and misinformation could derail efforts to build a credible and effective civil service. It appeals to political actors and interest groups to allow the reform process to run its course in the interest of workers and the wider public.

The coalition also emphasizes that Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration shows commitment to workers’ welfare, despite taking tough decisions to address long-standing challenges in the system. It says reforms are not designed to punish workers but to strengthen institutions and restore public confidence in governance.

While acknowledging that reforms can be difficult, the group urges patience and cooperation from all stakeholders. It encourages civil servants to engage constructively with relevant authorities rather than resorting to actions that may undermine public trust and stability.

The Coalition of Taraba Youths for Reform and Governance reaffirms its support for policies that promote good governance, accountability, and inclusive development. It calls on youths, workers, and residents of the state to resist misinformation and support reforms that aim to secure a more transparent and efficient public service for Taraba State.
