The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of three policemen by suspected gunmen at a checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of the state. The incident happened in the early hours of Wednesday.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Aya, disclosed the development to journalists in Lokoja, the state capital. He described the attack as an unfortunate and painful loss to the command.
Aya explained that the State Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, has immediately deployed a tactical squad to the area to track down the assailants. He assured the public that security operations are ongoing and the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Speaking further, Aya told Mediaplusng.com that the slain officers were carrying out their lawful duty when they were attacked. He added that the police remain committed to ensuring safety across Kogi State despite the setback.
The community of Egbe, a border town between Kogi and Kwara States, has in recent times witnessed security concerns, raising fears among residents. The police command has called for calm and promised to intensify surveillance to prevent further attacks.
