President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appoints Dr. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, marking a historic milestone as the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962. The appointment takes effect from January 10, 2026, and runs for a four-year term.

Dr. Odusote, who currently serves as Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus, succeeds Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure ends on January 9, 2026, Mediaplusng.com reports. Her appointment reflects the administration’s focus on merit, experience, and inclusive leadership in key national institutions.

A seasoned legal scholar and administrator, Dr. Odusote earns her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and is called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later obtains a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the same institution, specializing in company and commercial law, before completing a PhD in Law at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom, with research interests in public law and the administration of justice.

She joins the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and steadily rises through the ranks, serving in several strategic roles including Head of Academic Department, Director of Academics, and Head of Campus. Her long-standing service and deep institutional knowledge position her well for the role, Mediaplusng.com adds.

During her academic career, Dr. Odusote also serves as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the United Kingdom. She publishes widely in reputable local and international law journals and presents research papers at numerous legal education conferences within and outside Nigeria. Her professional contributions extend to serving on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.

As Director-General, Dr. Odusote assumes responsibility for the overall academic leadership, administrative management, and strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all campuses nationwide. She also serves as the principal liaison between the Law School, the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers, and the Nigerian Bar Association.

Stakeholders in the legal profession view her appointment as a significant step toward strengthening legal education, promoting institutional stability, and advancing gender inclusion at the highest level of legal training in Nigeria.
