President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved major appointments into the governing councils of two newly upgraded federal universities of education in northern Nigeria.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore has been named Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano. Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage was also appointed Vice Chancellor of the same institution.
Engineer Nakore, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, previously served as Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State. Prof. Kodage is an academic administrator with years of experience in education and research.
In a related development, Mediaplusng.com reports that President Tinubu also appointed Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State. Prof. Bunkure, a respected scholar in science education, is currently serving as Vice Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano.
Both Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, and the Federal University of Education, Zaria, were upgraded from colleges of education between 2022 and 2023. Under their enabling laws, the Pro-Chancellor will serve a four-year term, while the Vice Chancellors will serve for five years.
These appointments are expected to strengthen leadership and academic direction in the new universities as they continue to expand access to quality teacher education across Nigeria
