President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the nomination of three non-career ambassadors for Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in the United States, the United Kingdom, and France.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the nominees are Ambassador Ayodele Oke, Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are, and Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu. Their postings will be confirmed after the Senate completes its screening process, as announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Ambassador Dalhatu previously served as Nigeria’s ambassador to South Korea during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari. His return to diplomatic service is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s ties with strategic partners abroad.
Mediaplusng.com also reports that Ambassador Ayodele Oke, a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, is a former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). He once represented Nigeria at the Secretariat of the Commonwealth of Nations in London. Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are, another nominee, is a former Director General of the State Security Service (SSS). He also served briefly as National Security Adviser in 2010 and holds a First Class degree in Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
The nominations signal President Tinubu’s push to strengthen Nigeria’s global diplomacy through seasoned administrators with deep intelligence and security backgrounds.
