President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Shamsedeen Ogunjimi as the new Accountant-General of the Federation, following a rigorous selection process. His appointment takes effect from March 7, 2025, the same day the current Accountant-General, Oluwatoyin Madehin, is set to retire.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday.
Ogunjimi, 57, was initially named as Madehin’s successor in December 2024. However, his final selection came after a highly competitive, merit-based process. The selection committee, responsible for choosing the next Accountant-General, evaluated candidates through three key stages: a written assessment, an ICT proficiency test, and oral interviews.
“This rigorous selection process reflects President Tinubu’s dedication to promoting transparency, competence, and excellence in key public service roles,” the statement read.
Ogunjimi holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos. He is also a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
President Tinubu congratulated Ogunjimi on his new role and urged him to serve with integrity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to Nigeria’s financial management.
