President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrives in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, ahead of his participation in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), a major global forum on sustainable development, climate action, and economic growth. The event opens on Monday and brings together world leaders, investors, and policy experts from across the globe.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the presidential aircraft lands at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at about 11:30 p.m. local time on Sunday. President Tinubu receives a warm welcome from Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, alongside the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi.
Senior Nigerian officials also join in receiving the President at his hotel. They include the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed. The officials are in Abu Dhabi to support Nigeria’s engagement at the high-level summit.
President Tinubu arrives in the UAE from Europe, where he spends part of his end-of-year break engaging in strategic discussions with key global leaders. Mediaplusng.com reports that the President holds bilateral talks with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron, focusing on economic cooperation, security, and sustainable development partnerships.
The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is held under the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go.” The forum serves as a global platform for advancing practical solutions on renewable energy, climate resilience, sustainable finance, food security, and inclusive economic growth. It also provides opportunities for countries like Nigeria to showcase reforms, attract investment, and share policy ideas.
Nigeria’s participation is expected to focus on energy transition, climate adaptation, and green financing, especially as the country pushes reforms in power generation, clean energy investment, and sustainable industrial growth. President Tinubu’s presence signals Nigeria’s readiness to align with global sustainability goals while pursuing economic development that creates jobs and improves livelihoods.
The President is also expected to engage with international investors and development partners on the sidelines of the event. These engagements aim to attract capital into Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, infrastructure development, and climate-smart agriculture, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Analysts say the visit further strengthens diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. The UAE remains one of Nigeria’s key partners in trade, investment, aviation, and energy, with growing interests in renewable power and sustainable infrastructure across Africa.
Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading platforms on sustainability, drawing participation from governments, multinational companies, financial institutions, and civil society. Outcomes from the forum often shape global policy direction on climate action and energy transition.
As discussions begin, Nigeria positions itself as an active contributor to global conversations on sustainability, climate responsibility, and inclusive growth. President Tinubu’s participation underscores the country’s commitment to playing a constructive role in shaping a more resilient and sustainable global future.
