President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized that a functional capital city is essential to building a functional nation. He made this known during the commissioning of the newly constructed CN8 Collector Road (Asuquo Okon Way) and other connecting roads in the Dakibiyu District of Abuja.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the President described the FCT’s ongoing infrastructure transformation as proof of his administration’s commitment to building a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria. “When a city works—its roads paved, lights on, and traffic flowing—it sends a clear message that the government is present and purposeful,” Tinubu stated.
He explained that the newly commissioned roads will ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and improve economic activities in the area. “This is what Renewed Hope means—turning policies into real progress. It’s about practical impact, not empty promises,” the President said.
President Tinubu stressed that while some communities in the FCT have long been neglected, his government is determined to bridge the development gap. “Our goal is not just to beautify central Abuja, but to connect and uplift communities on the margins.”
He described the road project as a bold step toward inclusive development and urban renewal, adding that a modern and functional capital attracts investment, boosts confidence, and restores dignity to its residents.
Praise for Minister Wike’s Speedy Execution
The President also commended the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, for his commitment and urgency in delivering quality infrastructure. “The Minister’s determination to complete projects swiftly is well known, and his team has done excellent work,” Tinubu noted.
He assured Nigerians that the federal government will continue to support the FCT Administration with the resources and policy backing needed to ensure that developmental projects are delivered on schedule and to standard.
The newly completed roads connect several key institutions including the Police Service Commission, FCT High Court Jabi, Code of Conduct Tribunal, Court of Appeal (FCT Division), and Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology.
Wike: Project Delivered Within 8 Months
Speaking earlier, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike revealed that the road project was awarded in September 2023, flagged off in October, and completed in under eight months. He described the area before development as “terrible,” adding that the transformation was made possible through the support of President Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council.
FCT Minister of State Appreciates Support
Also speaking, the Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmud, thanked President Tinubu and the Vice President for their unwavering support to the administration. She also appreciated all the staff, engineers, and contractors involved in the successful completion of the project.
