President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has conferred the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on Nigeria’s Super Falcons players and officials, celebrating their historic victory at the 2025 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
Speaking at a special reception held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Tinubu commended the team for their resilience, unity, and exceptional display of Nigerian spirit on the continental stage. In recognition of their achievement, the President announced a $100,000 reward for each of the 24 players and $50,000 for each technical official.
As part of the national recognition, Tinubu also granted three-bedroom apartments to all players, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to supporting women in sports and encouraging excellence.
The Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), led by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, further rewarded the team by donating ₦10 million to each team member, applauding their remarkable comeback victory.
The Super Falcons clinched their 10th WAFCON title after a dramatic final, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2. Their victory not only reaffirmed Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football but also inspired a new generation of female athletes across the nation.
President Tinubu assured the team of continuous government support in their quest for global glory, as Nigeria prepares for future international competitions.
