In a major development regarding property revocation in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has intervened in the enforcement action on 4,794 properties revoked due to non-payment of Ground Rent spanning 10 to 43 years. The intervention follows a sweeping enforcement drive initiated by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) on May 26, 2025, targeting properties owned by individuals, corporate bodies, and government institutions.
With the President’s directive, defaulters now have a 14-day grace period to settle their outstanding Ground Rent liabilities, including penalties. This move is aimed at giving affected property owners a final opportunity to retain their assets and comply with FCT land regulations.
Revised Penalties by Districts:
Central Area: N5 million penalty + Ground Rent owed
Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse II, Guzape: N3 million penalty + Ground Rent owed
Wuse I, Garki I & II: N2 million penalty + Ground Rent owed
Additionally, property buyers who have not registered their ownership through the Minister’s Consent or Deed of Assignment have also been given 14 days to do so at the FCT Department of Land Administration.
FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, CON, further announced that all Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) and Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) holders in Abuja must settle their bills within the grace period or face revocation of their titles.
The FCTA urges all property owners to comply with payments and documentation to support Abuja’s infrastructural development and ensure the stability of the city’s land administration system.
