Tinubu, Obi, Labour Party Mourn Doyin Okupe, Hail His Legacy

Former presidential spokesman Doyin Okupe has passed away at the age of 72 after battling an illness.
President Bola Tinubu led tributes, describing Okupe as a bold and articulate advocate for national development who played a key role in Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a statement, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga conveyed Tinubu’s deep sorrow, noting that Okupe’s experience and insight remained invaluable to the nation. He also extended condolences to Ogun State and the Iperu-Remo community, mourning the loss of a respected leader.
Okupe served as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign under the Labour Party (LP) before resigning.
Reacting to his passing, Obi described him as a passionate political figure who worked tirelessly for a better Nigeria. He urged members of the Obidient Movement and Nigerians to pray for Okupe’s family in this difficult time.
Labour Party’s National Chairman, Julius Abure, expressed shock over Okupe’s sudden death. In a statement, he hailed Okupe’s charismatic leadership and unwavering commitment to national progress.
“Though he resigned from the Labour Party on principle, his fraternity with us never ceased. He remained a source of invaluable advice and inspiration,” Abure stated.
He added that Okupe’s passion for a new Nigeria was evident and that his death marked the end of an era for Nigerian politics.
Okupe’s passing is seen as a huge loss to Nigeria, with many hailing his contributions to governance and public service. As the nation mourns, his legacy of passion, resilience, and commitment to national development remains.
