Tinubu Orders Security Chiefs to Restore Peace in Benue, Urges Reconciliation Efforts

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Nigeria’s security chiefs to fully enforce his earlier orders aimed at ending the ongoing violence in Benue State.

This renewed directive comes in response to recent reprisal attacks that have led to the tragic loss of lives across several communities. In line with the president’s instruction, top intelligence officers, police forces, and military personnel have been deployed to Benue to take control of security operations and restore calm.

President Tinubu also tasked Governor Hyacinth Alia with initiating immediate peace talks and reconciliation meetings among farmers, herders, and affected communities. The goal, according to the president, is to end the cycle of violence and promote peaceful coexistence in the state.

Condemning the bloodshed, Tinubu described the attacks as “inhuman and anti-progress.” He called on political figures and traditional leaders to stop making inflammatory statements that could fuel more violence, urging them to take responsibility and help calm rising tensions.

“The recurring killings in Benue State are heartbreaking and must stop. I have instructed security agencies to act decisively—arrest and prosecute all those involved in these attacks, regardless of the side they represent,” Tinubu said.

He further called on Governor Alia to demonstrate leadership and bring all parties together for honest dialogue and conflict resolution.

“Our people deserve peace. Lasting peace can be achieved when leaders unite, address grievances with fairness, and commit to justice,” the president added.

This development highlights the federal government’s renewed focus on ending the security crisis in Benue and fostering unity among diverse groups in the region.
