President Bola Ahmed Tinubu renews the appointment of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for a fresh five-year term, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security institutions.

Mediaplusng.com reports that the renewed tenure takes effect from Friday, February 27, following the completion of Dr. Audi’s initial term. The announcement is contained in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirming the reappointment and outlining expectations for the Corps’ leadership.

Dr. Audi is first appointed to the position in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His first five-year tenure concludes as he participates in activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja. He is scheduled to resume duties under the renewed mandate immediately.

Mediaplusng.com gathers that President Tinubu charges the NSCDC boss to reposition the Corps for greater effectiveness in safeguarding critical national assets and supporting national security operations. The President emphasizes the need for the service to play a more prominent role, particularly as the Nigeria Police refocus efforts on combating banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.

Security analysts describe the renewal as a move aimed at ensuring continuity in leadership within one of Nigeria’s key paramilitary agencies. The NSCDC plays a strategic role in protecting infrastructure, combating vandalism, and supporting law enforcement agencies in maintaining public safety across the federation.

Mediaplusng.com understands that Dr. Audi brings decades of experience within the Corps to the renewed assignment. Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, he begins his educational journey in the state before obtaining a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate from Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, in 1987.

He proceeds to the College of Education, Akwanga, where he earns a Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1992, and later graduates from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education in 1995. His academic pursuit continues with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001.

Further strengthening his professional qualifications, Dr. Audi obtains a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University, Keffi, in 2014, and a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2019. His academic background complements his operational and administrative experience within the Corps.

Dr. Audi joins the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and is deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State after completing his basic officer training in 1997. Over the years, he serves in various state commands and rises through the ranks, becoming a Commandant in 2007 before his eventual elevation to Commandant-General.

With the renewed mandate, expectations are high that the NSCDC will further enhance its operational capacity, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and improve protection of critical infrastructure nationwide. The Federal Government reiterates its commitment to empowering security institutions to effectively address evolving threats and promote national stability.
