A deadly power surge in the early hours of Saturday, June 14, 2025, has claimed the lives of five people in Gombe State, leaving over a dozen others injured.
The Gombe State Police Command confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred in the Tudun Wada Pantami area of Gombe metropolis. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the electrocution was caused by a high-voltage surge from an electric transformer that affected nearby homes.
Emergency response officers from the Pantami Division visited the affected area to provide assistance and assess the damage.
While the injured victims are receiving medical attention, police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the electrical fault and prevent future occurrences.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm as efforts continue to restore safety and power stability in the area.
