Lapai, Niger State — Tension is high in Lapai following the killing of a student during a midnight robbery on Monday, June 23, 2025. The victim, identified simply as Jafar, was reportedly stabbed to death by suspected robbers at a student lodge in the Ndakitabu area, on the outskirts of Lapai town.
According to Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the attack occurred around 2:30 a.m. and was followed by a distress call received by the police at about 3:00 a.m. Officers from the Lapai Division responded swiftly, but the suspects had already escaped before their arrival.
Jafar, who was found with a deep stab wound to the neck, was rushed to the General Hospital in Lapai. Sadly, he was confirmed dead by doctors.
Angered by the tragic death, students took to the streets in protest, demanding justice and better security. They blocked the Agaie–Lapai Road, disrupting movement and drawing attention to the growing insecurity in the area.
To restore order, the Niger State Police Command deployed tactical teams to the scene. Authorities assured residents that a full investigation is underway and promised to bring the attackers to justice.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Elleman, condemned the killing and directed a manhunt for the perpetrators. He reassured the public that the police are fully committed to protecting lives and ensuring justice is served.
As of now, the atmosphere in Lapai remains tense, with students and residents urging the government and security agencies to act fast and prevent future attacks.
