Tragic Zaria-Kano Road Crash Claims 21 Lives: FRSC Blames Route Violation

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the loss of 21 lives in a fatal road crash that occurred on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Kasuwar Dogo, Dakatsale, along the Zaria-Kano Expressway.

The accident, which happened around 8:20 a.m., involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus and a heavy-duty DAF truck. According to preliminary investigations by the FRSC crash investigation team, the crash was caused by a route violation. The commercial bus driver reportedly drove against the flow of traffic, leading to a deadly head-on collision with the oncoming truck.

Out of the 24 persons involved in the accident, 21—comprising 19 male adults and 2 female adults—sadly lost their lives. Three other victims sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Nasarawa Hospital in Kano.

FRSC rescue teams, in collaboration with other emergency responders, swiftly cleared the crash site and restored normal traffic flow.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, extended his condolences to the families of the victims and emphasized that a full investigation into the incident is underway.

He reiterated the Corps’ warning to all motorists, particularly commercial and truck drivers, against dangerous practices such as driving against traffic, speeding, and reckless overtaking. “These irresponsible actions continue to result in avoidable tragedies on our roads,” he said.

The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to nationwide enforcement and road safety education campaigns, urging all road users to adhere strictly to traffic rules. Members of the public are encouraged to report reckless driving via the FRSC toll-free line 122, the FRSC Mobile App, or by contacting nearby patrol teams.
