In a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency, troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralized 10 Boko Haram terrorists during a clearance operation near the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
The operation, which took place between Rann and Gamboru Ngala—border communities in Borno State—led to the recovery of several dangerous weapons, including anti-aircraft ammunition and other arms believed to have been stolen during a past attack on Cameroonian forces.
Speaking to Channels Television in Maiduguri, the Theatre Commander of the Northeast Joint Task Force, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, confirmed that the clearance operation happened in the Manawaji area, a known Boko Haram enclave.
> “Our troops engaged the terrorists at Manawaji near the Cameroon border. During the fierce battle, 10 terrorists were neutralized, and multiple weapons including anti-aircraft rounds were recovered,” Maj. Gen. Abdulsalam stated.
He added that the anti-aircraft ammunition recovered may have been stolen from the Cameroon Defence Force during a previous assault.
The ongoing military campaign aims to clear out remaining terrorist cells in the Southern Lake Chad region. Communities like Ngala and Rann, located approximately 154km and 183km from Maiduguri respectively, remain key operational zones due to their proximity to the border and history of insurgent activity.
The Theatre Commander praised the morale and resilience of the troops, noting that recent deployment of advanced fighting equipment has strengthened operations.
> “We are committed to ending terrorism in this region. Our operations will continue until every last insurgent is neutralized,” he assured.
The Nigerian military continues to intensify efforts to restore peace and security in the Lake Chad Basin and surrounding border communities.
