Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized billionaire Elon Musk’s newly announced political movement—the “America Party”—labeling it as a ‘ridiculous’ move that threatens to confuse voters and destabilize the nation’s traditional two-party system.
The latest clash between the two influential figures escalated after Musk unveiled his political venture over the weekend, claiming the United States is operating under a “one-party system” when it comes to fiscal policies. Musk also vowed to campaign against lawmakers who backed Trump’s recent spending bill, which he warned could significantly inflate national debt.
> “When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste and graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk posted on his social platform, X.
Trump fired back in a statement on Truth Social, dismissing the third-party initiative.
> “It’s always been a two-party system,” Trump said. “Starting a third party just adds confusion. Third parties have never worked—so he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous.”
He didn’t stop there. Trump further described Musk as a “TRAIN WRECK” who has gone “off the rails” in recent weeks.
The dispute appears to have deepened over Trump’s controversial spending bill. Musk argues the legislation will significantly increase the U.S. debt burden, while Trump alleges that Musk is upset over reduced federal subsidies for electric vehicles—a policy shift affecting Tesla.
Meanwhile, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent weighed in, urging Musk to stay focused on his business ventures.
