US President Donald Trump has pledged to “do our best” to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, calling Monday’s high-level meeting in Washington a “big day” for peace efforts. The talks brought together Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and key European leaders as global pressure mounts for a resolution to the conflict.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the Washington dialogue comes just days after Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. While last week’s discussions raised hopes, Trump disclosed that ceasefire negotiations had been delayed in favor of working toward a broader peace agreement, even as Moscow’s full-scale invasion stretches into its fourth year.
Concerns remain over possible concessions to Russia, with reports indicating that Moscow has renewed its hardline demands — including recognition of its control over four Ukrainian regions (Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson) and its illegal annexation of Crimea. These demands have intensified debates among Kyiv’s European allies, who are rallying to maintain unity in the so-called “Coalition of the Willing.”
Mediaplusng.com reports that the Washington meeting was attended by major European figures such as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte were also present, underlining the importance of transatlantic cooperation in shaping the next steps.
As deliberations continue, the world is watching to see if Washington’s gathering will pave the way for a breakthrough or if the war will drag on under Russia’s hardline stance.
