Umo Eno Joins APC: Says Shift Is for State Development, Not Politics

In a move that has stirred political discussions across the country, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during a special address in Uyo, the governor described his decision as a “progressive movement” aimed at aligning Akwa Ibom with the Federal Government for increased development and access to federal resources.

> “Today, I formally resign from the PDP and declare my alignment with the APC. This is a decision based on enlightened state interest, not politics,” Eno said.

The governor emphasized that while his political party has changed, his values remain the same. He expressed admiration for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and the reforms being implemented under the Renewed Hope agenda.

> “President Tinubu has shown courage in tackling difficult economic issues. Though tough, his policies are beginning to yield long-term results,” he noted.

Eno said his administration will continue to run a bipartisan government focused on peace, unity, and inclusive development. He reaffirmed his commitment to the “Arise Agenda” and urged Akwa Ibom people to support his decision for the overall good of the state.

The governor also noted that political parties are vehicles for elections, while governance must serve all citizens, regardless of party affiliation.

> “We are all Akwa Ibomites first. My focus remains the unity, peace, and prosperity of our state.”

He concluded with a biblical reference, calling on citizens to understand the times and support the movement, assuring that he has received strong backing from the President, the Senate President, and other APC leaders.
