VP Shettima Chairs 152nd NEC Meeting, Gov. Fubara Absent

The National Economic Council (NEC) held its 152nd meeting on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima. The session comes just 21 days after its last meeting.

According to Mediaplusng.com, the meeting had in attendance the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazak, alongside several governors and deputy governors from across the country.

At its previous sitting, the Council reported a significant reduction in the outbreak of the Type-2 Polio variant in Nigeria—from 78 cases recorded in 2024 to 42 cases as of August 2025. The Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Inuwa Yahaya, who briefed reporters after that meeting, noted that Sokoto State remains a high-risk area.

Mediaplusng.com also gathered that while the focus of Thursday’s meeting was yet to be disclosed at the time of filing this report, the absence of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara drew attention. Governor Fubara was reinstated by President Bola Tinubu only hours before the NEC meeting, after a six-month suspension from office.

The outcome of the 152nd NEC meeting is expected to shed more light on current economic strategies and pressing national issues.
