The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has commenced another round of commissioning and flag-off of key water projects in Abuja, just weeks after concluding 16 days of project inaugurations that ended on July 3, 2025.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Wike will today, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, commission the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council. The facility, which has been upgraded to improve efficiency, is expected to boost water supply across the FCT.
The Minister will also kick-start the construction and expansion of water supply to FCT satellite towns. The first phase, Lot 1, begins tomorrow with the Bwari Township project in Bwari Area Council. On Thursday, attention shifts to Lot 2, covering Karu town and surrounding areas in the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
Mediaplusng.com recalls that during the commissioning of the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project on June 16, 2025, Wike disclosed that the FCT Administration had signed a new agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China. The agreement, he explained, was designed to extend water supply to underserved satellite communities such as Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.
He further assured that procurement processes for the water supply extensions were nearing completion, promising timely delivery to meet the needs of residents
