As Nigeria joins the world to mark World Refugee Day 2025, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has urged Nigerians to embrace and uplift displaced persons through acts of kindness and inclusion. This year’s theme, “Community as a Superpower,” highlights the vital role local communities play in supporting refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
In her message, Senator Tinubu praised the resilience and strength displayed by refugees across Nigeria and beyond. She emphasized that while displaced individuals show immense courage, it is often the compassion and support of communities that give them renewed hope and a path toward recovery.
“Let us continue to create inclusive environments where refugees and IDPs are not only welcomed but are truly supported to thrive,” the First Lady stated. She also encouraged displaced persons to be law-abiding and contribute positively to their host communities.
Senator Tinubu reaffirmed that when communities stand together in unity and empathy, they become stronger, more resilient, and capable of transforming lives.
World Refugee Day is observed every year on June 20 to honor the courage, strength, and contributions of millions of refugees forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or natural disasters.
