The recent killing of over 35 innocent hostages by armed bandits in Banga Ward, Kauran Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation across Nigeria.
In response, the Zamfara Circle Community Initiative, a leading civil society organization, has issued a strong appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging immediate and decisive intervention to halt the ongoing bloodshed. The group expressed deep concern over what it describes as the federal government’s silence, alleging that the people of Zamfara have been left to face these relentless attacks alone.
Beyond the killings, the group highlighted a growing humanitarian crisis in Zamfara, revealing that more than 55,000 residents from Gusau and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas have been displaced due to the unending wave of violence. The displaced persons, they noted, are in urgent need of shelter, food, and medical support.
The Zamfara Circle Community Initiative emphasized that without swift and coordinated action from the federal government, the security situation could deteriorate further, pushing the state into a full-blown humanitarian disaster.
They called for increased military deployment, better intelligence coordination, and a comprehensive security strategy to protect lives and restore peace in Zamfara. The group also urged humanitarian agencies to scale up relief efforts to support displaced families.
