The Kebbi State Government has promised urgent relief for communities affected by recent flooding, assuring residents that swift interventions will follow to ease their hardship.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the Chairman of the High-Powered Flood Assessment Committee, Abdullahi Umar Faruq, gave the assurance on Wednesday during an inspection visit to the flood-damaged Zagga/Kende Road. The Committee was set up by Governor Nasir Idris to evaluate the extent of destruction across the state.
Addressing residents of Zagga and commuters who gathered to welcome the delegation, Faruq conveyed the Governor’s deep concern over the widespread damage, which has destroyed key infrastructure including roads, bridges, and farmlands.
Mediaplusng.com reports that Faruq confirmed Governor Idris has given the Committee a one-week mandate to complete its assessment and submit a comprehensive report. “The Governor constituted this Committee with a clear directive: assess all flood-affected areas across Kebbi State within one week. When he gives such an instruction, it means prompt action is to follow,” Faruq stated.
He further assured residents that the damages identified would be addressed without delay to restore livelihoods and ensure smooth transportation.
The Committee, which includes engineers from the Ministries of Works, Environment, and Water Resources, also inspected several damaged infrastructures, including roads and bridges, as part of its statewide flood assessment.
