The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has released a communiqué following its 7th strategic meeting held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital. The session was chaired by the Forum’s Chairman and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, and focused on national security, democratic values, and preparations for the party’s forthcoming convention.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the PDP governors expressed deep concern over the erosion of democratic principles under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government. They emphasized that the Forum remains committed to rescuing Nigeria from divisive governance, insecurity, and worsening economic hardship.
In their resolutions, the governors commended party members and supporters across the country for their loyalty and resilience despite alleged intimidation during the last bye-election. They praised the courage of PDP leaders in withstanding orchestrated defections, stressing that such tactics cannot weaken the party’s grassroots support or the public’s demand for better governance.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the Forum reaffirmed its support for the resolutions of the 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in July 2025, which endorsed the November 15 National Convention. The governors urged members to resist attempts to derail the process, describing the PDP as the only viable alternative for restoring Nigeria to the path of stability, growth, and inclusive governance.
On insecurity, the governors applauded Zamfara State for its proactive initiatives that have reduced crime but condemned continued killings in Katsina, Plateau, Niger, Benue, and other states. They called on the Federal Government to step up its responsibility in safeguarding lives and property nationwide.
The Forum also criticized the over-militarization of recent bye-elections, alleging irregularities, vote buying, and violence. They urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and protect the sanctity of their votes.
The governors thanked the Government and people of Zamfara State for hosting the meeting and commended Governor Dauda Lawal for his strides in infrastructure, health, education, social services, and security. They also extended condolences to the people of Zamfara on the passing of the Emir of Gusau and to the people of Oyo State over the loss of traditional rulers.
