Abduljabar Adama Wins Nigeria’s First-Ever Medal at World Aquatics Championship

The Nigeria Aquatic Federation (NAqF) has announced a historic milestone in the nation’s sporting history as Abduljabar Adama won the silver medal in the men’s 50m butterfly at the ongoing World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships in Otopeni, Romania.

Adama finished with a time of 23.64 seconds, securing second place and making history as the first Nigerian swimmer to ever win a medal at a World Aquatics event. According to Mediaplusng.com, this marks Nigeria’s highest achievement in global swimming since the sport’s inception in the country.

Earlier this year, Adama proved his rising dominance at the 16th Africa Junior Swimming Championships in Cairo, Egypt, where he won three gold medals, one bronze, and set new records, including an African Junior record in the 50m freestyle. His latest success in Romania further confirms his reputation as one of Africa’s brightest swimming talents.

The Nigerian team, which had prepared in London before departing for Romania, received high praise from federation officials. Speaking on the achievement, the Federation President, Chief Daphey-Aliyu, described Adama’s medal as a “historic breakthrough that will inspire future generations of Nigerian swimmers to dream bigger and aim higher,” reports Mediaplusng.com.

The National Sports Commission also congratulated the six-member Nigerian team, comprising five boys and one girl, while reaffirming its support for swimming as a podium sport. Adama is currently benefiting from the Elite Athletes and Podium Performance Program, a scheme designed to nurture top talents for global sporting success.
