Nigerian lawyer and public policy expert, Dr. Joe Abah, has stressed the need to strengthen the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) as part of efforts to fight corruption and curb unexplained wealth in the country. He made this known during an interview on Sunrise Daily on Channels Television.
According to Mediaplusng.com, Abah explained that the Bureau’s principle of presumption of guilt until proven innocent could serve as a powerful tool in addressing corruption, particularly among politically exposed persons who often live beyond their legitimate means.
He noted that if public officials are found to own assets far above their lawful income, they should be required to prove the source of their wealth. This, he said, would not only discourage illicit enrichment but also strengthen accountability in governance.
Mediaplusng.com reports that Abah believes the enforcement of this principle by the Code of Conduct Bureau would go a long way in restoring public trust, reducing corruption, and promoting transparency in Nigeria’s political system.
