Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the North Central region have taken to the streets of Jos, Plateau State, to protest the party’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South. The demonstrators, who gathered in large numbers, said the zoning arrangement was unfair and does not reflect equity within the party.
According to Mediaplusng.com, the protesters carried placards with messages demanding that the PDP reconsider its zoning formula ahead of the 2027 elections. They argued that the North Central has been sidelined in the party’s leadership structure for too long and deserves the opportunity to produce the next presidential candidate.
The angry supporters also warned that forcing the ticket to the South could further weaken the PDP’s popularity in the region, which is considered a strong battleground in national elections. They urged party leaders to promote internal democracy and give every zone a fair chance to contest the primary.
Speaking to journalists, some of the protesters told Mediaplusng.com that they will continue their peaceful demonstration until their demands are heard. They stressed that the survival and unity of the PDP depend on fairness, inclusiveness, and respect for all zones in the party.
The protest in Jos adds to the growing internal debate within the PDP as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
