Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has urged Nigerians to promote unity and peaceful coexistence across ethnic and religious divides, while pledging support for the Igbo community’s business and welfare concerns.
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has called on Nigerians to live peacefully, support one another and recognise their shared identity, regardless of ethnic or religious differences.
Lawal made the appeal on Tuesday when he received members of the Igbo Community Association in Zamfara State at the Government House in Gusau.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, equal treatment and cooperation among residents from diverse backgrounds, stressing that unity remains essential for national development.
Mediaplusng.com reports that the association, led by its President-General, Maduka Ezemeka, pledged to mobilise its members to support Lawal’s re-election bid in next year’s governorship election.
The governor recalled his longstanding relationship with members of the Igbo community, dating back to his childhood, when Igbo businessmen and artisans lived and worked within his ancestral home in Gusau.
He described the Igbo people as brothers and partners in Zamfara’s development, noting that mutual respect and cooperation could help Nigerians prosper together.
During the meeting, Ezemeka appealed to the state government to provide loans and credit facilities to help community members sustain and expand their businesses amid prevailing economic challenges.
He also requested a functional bus for the association, explaining that vehicles provided by previous administrations were no longer in good working condition.
In response, Lawal pledged to provide the community with a bus to support its activities. He also promised to examine the concerns of community members who were disengaged from the state’s teaching service.
On business support, the governor asked the association to submit a formal proposal detailing its needs. He said his administration would consider possible interventions, including partnerships with financial institutions.
Lawal also highlighted the importance of proper land documentation, explaining that property recertification could help owners regularise their records and improve their access to credit facilities.
Addressing the teachers’ disengagement issue, the governor expressed surprise, saying he had previously directed the former Commissioner for Education to resolve the matter.
He subsequently directed the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada, to work with the Commissioner for Education and representatives of the affected teachers to investigate the circumstances and recommend appropriate action.
The officials are expected to report back on the outcome.
The meeting highlighted the importance of inter-ethnic cooperation, community welfare and dialogue in strengthening peaceful relations among residents of Zamfara State.
