The Federal Government has fulfilled President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cash reward pledge to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title victory.
The National Sports Commission confirmed that the players, coaches and other team officials have received their cash awards in the naira equivalent of the promised dollar amounts.
Under the presidential reward package, each player received the equivalent of 100,000 US dollars, while coaches and other officials received 50,000 dollars each.
The cash payments come in addition to the three-bedroom flats in Abuja and national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger, OON, already conferred on members of the team.
The rewards recognise the Super Falcons’ outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where Nigeria defeated Morocco 3-2 in the final to secure a record-extending 10th continental title.
The National Sports Commission described the fulfilment of the cash pledge as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s recognition of the team’s contribution to Nigerian sports.
The development also renews attention on the importance of rewarding sporting excellence and providing sustained support for athletes representing the country on the international stage.
For the Super Falcons, the latest payments complete another major component of the presidential recognition following their historic continental triumph.
